Postdoc position in pollination ecology at Estación Biológica de Doñana

Period: 24 months full-time
Starting date: December-January 2010
Salary: 26733 euros per year
Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Post:
The research fellow will be involved in research on the impacts of flowering crops and invasive species on plant-pollination interactions. The work will explore aspects on species diversity and community ecology, focussing on patterns of change in plant-pollinator networks and bee demography in the presence of mass flowering crops and introduced plant and pollinator species. The work includes field work, statistical analysis and writing.

This post is part of an EU FP7 project STEP (“Status and Trends in European Pollinators”; http://www.step-project.net/), which involves 21 partner organisations across Europe, and so would involve collaborations with an interdisciplinary team of scientists from across Europe. Excellent English language level, communication and good leadership skills are essential. The fellow will be responsible for communicating the EBD contribution to STEP in reports and deliverables to the EU.

Essential attributes of the candidate

A first degree and PhD in biology, ecology, environmental sciences or a closely allied disciplines.
A strong background in population, community ecology and conservation biology.
Experience in field work on pollinator and plant community ecology.
Basic knowledge of GIS or other spatial analytical methods.
Excellence in data analysis and statistics.
Proven ability to design, execute and write up research work independently.
Excellence in English and Spanish language.
Good organisational and time management skills.
A positive attitude to collaborative work, especially in an international context.
Good communication skills, including written and presentation skills.
Ability to work to deadlines.
Proven ability to work effectively and responsibly without close supervision.
Have the ability to deal with and prioritise varied tasks.
Commitment to own continuous professional development.
